os-tan
A personification of an operating system, or more broadly any computer software, as a cute anime character.
The concept of OS-tans originated on the Nijiura boards on Futaba Channel in 2003, out of discussions about Windows ME and its reputation for instability and frequent crashes. From this, ME-tan was born as a clumsy and failure-prone maid. Other OS-tans soon followed suit, with XP-tan for example being depicted as a glutton for RAM and 95-tan as an older woman from the early modern era of Japan.
