The middle french loanword "paladin" or "palatine" historically comes from latin adjective word: "palatinus" (plural: palatini), meaning "relating to the palace" which are originally referred to the palace guards of the palatine hill during the roman period, and later referred to a "count palatine" a high-level official attached to imperial or royal courts to perform the administrative tasks
