Spider-Man is a Marvel superhero and star of the Spider-Man franchise. The character was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko. He first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 (Aug. 1962).

Spider-Man is the secret identity of Peter Parker, who was raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May after the death of his parents. In his origin story, he gains superhuman powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. These include superhuman strength, agility, and the ability to shoot webs and cling to walls.

Peter isn't the only one to bare the Spider-Man moniker. In the 1970s, Spider-Man was given his own tokusatsu series in Japan where the mask was worn by Yamashiro Takuya and he had a mecha named Leopardon. In the 2010s, as part of the Ultimate Marvel (Earth-1610) continuity, Peter would be succeeded as Spider-Man by Miles Morales.
